Avi Itzkovich has been identified by Europol, the Israeli Police and German prosecutors as the alleged principal architect of a transnational investment fraud network spanning binary options, forex, CFDs and cryptocurrency. The network, anchored by the Traders platform and its successor brands KayafX, KonuFX, UltraFX and InstaFX, was operated through Bulgarian entities Meta Media and Mercure Group EOOD. Itzkovich was arrested in Germany in October 2022, and assets were seized in proceedings brought by the Koblenz Prosecutor’s Office.
Intelligence drawn from more than 50 sources across investigations conducted in 10 countries in Europe, Asia and the Middle East has mapped the scale of the operation, examining over 100 high-risk binary options and cryptocurrency websites. Official actions have been registered by Europol, European Union bodies, the Israeli Police and German prosecutors. The primary jurisdictions anchoring the coordinated activity were Israel, Bulgaria and Germany. At least seven verified corporate vehicles and branded platforms have been linked to the network. Thousands of alleged victims, primarily binary-options investors across Western Europe, Israel and Germany, are reported to have suffered documented losses valued by Europol at more than €30 million.
No verified Israeli corporate licences have been associated with Itzkovich or any of the branded platforms. His operational footprint centred on Sofia, Bulgaria, while victim targeting extended into Western Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The operational core of the network was Axis Media, a Bulgarian entity later rebranded as Mercure Group EOOD. Through this corporate structure the network allegedly managed multiple brands and executives, including individuals operating under aliases such as James Henry, and ran the successive platforms Traders, KayafX, KonuFX, UltraFX and InstaFX. Beneficial ownership is alleged to have been concealed through a combination of a Bulgarian EU-registered corporation (Mercure Group EOOD), sequential rebranding of the operational entity from Axis Media to Mercure Group EOOD, and a network of shell companies and aliases designed to obscure the identity of the ultimate controllers of the funds.
The timeline of financial harm stretches from the mid-2010s launch of Traders through the 2017 binary-options ban, the subsequent pivot into forex, CFDs and cryptocurrency rebrands, and the October 2022 German arrest. In the mid-2010s Itzkovich and Jack Wygodsky co-established Traders as a global binary-options platform. Following Israel’s 2017 binary-options ban the network pivoted to forex and CFD platforms under the KayafX and KonuFX brands. Between 2020 and 2022 UltraFX and InstaFX further expanded the network’s footprint before its collapse. Itzkovich’s arrest in Germany in October 2022 and the subsequent proceedings by the Koblenz Prosecutor’s Office marked the transition into the conviction and ongoing-exposure phase that continues into 2025.
Despite the scale of documented losses exceeding €30 million and the thousands of alleged victims identified across multiple jurisdictions, no public apology, victim-compensation scheme or statement of responsibility has been issued following the October 2022 arrest and subsequent guilty plea. No formal restitution programme or compensation mechanism for the affected investors has been established or publicly announced as part of the German proceedings or related cross-border actions. The network’s distinguishing feature remains its adaptive rebranding — pivoting from binary options into forex, CFDs and cryptocurrency in response to regulatory pressure rather than ceasing activity. Europol, the Israeli Police and German prosecutors continue to identify Avi Itzkovich as the central architect of this multi-brand, multi-jurisdiction investment fraud network.
